I enjoy decorating my master bath as it is one room that is all mine. It is where I escape for a soothing bubble bath after a long week or to get ready for an evening out. Spring is the perfect time to refresh your decor.
Tip #1 Glass Jars Bright, shiny, smooth
I had a few apothecary jars leftover from when I used to do candy buffets so I put them to use. You can pick up similar affordable jars at craft stores or discount home decor stores. Rather than buy filler, I decided to store items that I use – soaps, bath bombs and bath salts.
I make my own Bath Salts. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 cups coarse salt
- 2 cups Epson salts
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- several drops of essential oils
- food coloring (optional)
Simply mix both the salts and baking soda together. Add a few drops of essential oils – feel free to mix several scents to create your own. The salts can be tinted with a few drops of essential oils. Store in a glass jar. Add a few tablespoons of bath salts to a hot bath. Enjoy!
Tip #2 Store supplies in woven baskets Not only do you have storage, but it adds to your decor. I keep a large basket next to my tub filled with clean towels – I love the look and I always have a clean towel when I need it.
Baskets with lids are a great way to store things that you want easy access to, but out of site. I keep a basket on the back of my toilet – packages of Cottonelle® FreshCare* Flushable Cleansing Cloths fit in the basket perfectly and discretely.
Tip #3 Introduce Textures Clear glass, shiny silver, woven baskets, shag rug, plush towels
Tip #4 Make Use of Trays I love using trays as a decorative accent. I took a favorite silver tray and added a glass jar filled with cotton balls, a small mercury glass container and a small flower shaped plate. The plate is a great place to put jewelry when showering or washing hands.
Tip #5 Rule of Three When grouping items, groups of three (or 5 or 7) have the most decorative appeal. I have 3 items on my tray, 3 glass jars, 3 towels.
Tip #6 Add Feminine Accents I found this silver vase at a thrift store (it has a large scratch in it but I love its rustic look) and added some silk hydrangea flowers. Fresh flowers are even better.
Tip #7 Add Soothing Elements Candles, scents, spa accents. Over the years, I’ve picked up candle handlers from thrift stores. Display several around the tub and light while enjoying a bubble bath.
